James Purdey, London. Best 12ga. self-opening sidelock, light weight, game gun completed ca. 1886.  Weight: 6 lbs. 10 oz.  Stock Dimensions: 15”x 1 ½”x 2 ½”x 3/8” cast-off.  Very nice 30” chopper-lump steel barrels with 2 ½” chambers have excellent bores (.733”/.734”), choked .006”/.006”, and minimum wall thicknesses of .030”/.030”. Barrels are old replacements, likely done by the maker, and have a few very minor exterior dings. Early self-opening action, nicely engraved, with the beautifully sculpted fences typical of the early guns, retains a fair amount of the original hardening color and has all the most desirable features including hidden third fasteners, bushed firing pins, automatic safety, and double triggers. Very nicely figured straight-grip stock with 1” wood extension. Splinter forend. Overall tight, mechanically perfect, and a very solid working gun well worth the money.
