William Ford, Birmingham. Extremely rare 28ga. childs gun, ca. 1890. Weight 4 lbs. 4 oz. Overall length: 39. Stock dimensions: 13x 1 x 2x 1/8 cast-off. Superb 24 damascus barrels retaining most of the original rich brown finish have mint bores (.619/.621), choked .008/.034, and wall thickness .032/.027. Nitro proofed for 2 loads in 1986. This unusual gun was made on the Heath Chamberless Patent in which the bore and chamber are the same diameter hence eliminating the forcing cones resulting in greatly reduced recoil making this the ideal firearm for a youths introduction to the shooting sport. As an aside, I have also seen several William Ford large bore waterfowl guns utilizing the Heath Chamberless system presumably for the same reason of lessened recoil. Side lever opening action with lever on the left which is the perfect lever location for right handed shooters. Rebounding hammer side locks. Double triggers. Nicely figured walnut stock with a color hardened toe clip retains the original finish. Overall this beautiful little gun retains most of the original finish throughout and is tight as a safe. How about this for your Grandsons birthday??
